BBQ - Family Style

The host family fired up their charcoal grill, invited ALL of their family over and made a night of it. We had chicken, pork and hot dog/sausages. There were cousins, in laws, kids, siblings, aunts and uncles as far as the eye could see. A good time was had by all.

Seaman Sunil Sharma

Neil completed basic training. Abbie and her Dad were there for support. Now he's based in Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

The National History Museum and the Museum of Natural History

Both are worth the price of admission.

Cinnamon Park

Took some time to explore Colombo. There is a big beautiful park between the town hall and the museums called Vihara Maha Devi. It has a children's area including a suspension bridge, ponds, fountains, horses, an exercise course and a bike path.

Monitors

There are two types of monitors in Sri Lanka: land and water. The local name for the water monitor is kabaragoya. This one was about six feet long. The local name for the land monitor is Thalagoya. This one is about four feet long. We've seen them both in the neighborhood.

Evening walk around Angoda

We just need to walk a bit after the rain cleared. We had no real destination; we just wandered.

Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihāraya

This Buddhist temple is quite close to where we are staying and is known for its paintings. The Buddha visited here and bathed in the river.
